Christian Nodal and Ángela Aguilar used Instagram on Thursday, October 29, to share photos of a Día de Muertos altar they set up. The ofrenda featured cempasúchil flowers, candles, papel picado, family portraits and a floral figure tied to the Aguilar family. One image shows the couple seated on the floor in front of the display.
- How it was shared: Nodal posted a story first, then Aguilar followed minutes later with a photo and a video of the same altar.
- What the altar held: marigolds, candles, multicolored papel picado, framed photos and two large skull figures at the sides.
- Timing: the posts came days before Día de Muertos and one day after Belinda's Beliween party.
A multi-level altar with a family emblem
The installation covered an entire wall and reached the floor. At the top, a figure made of cempasúchil evoked the Aguilar family symbol; it sat above a black cross and in front of blue lighting that contrasted with the orange flowers.
Two monumental skulls flanked the altar. One had red, yellow, blue and pink details; the other showed purple, red and black strokes. Both framed the different tiers and the photographs placed in the center.
Papel picado appeared in red, black, yellow, green, purple and pink, arranged along the top and the edges of each level. Candles were spread throughout the installation, some on the tiers and others forming a path at the bottom. Bunches of orange, yellow, white, pink and red flowers surrounded the portraits.
Family photos and a post without explanation
One of Aguilar's images showed a series of framed photographs, including portraits of her relatives. The post did not include written text explaining who the offering was dedicated to or what each object meant.
The singer set one video to music by Mexican Music Factory, Antonio… The front-facing shot made it easier to see the floral arrangements, skull figures, candles and mementos on each level.
In the main photo, the two performers sit on the floor facing the altar. Nodal wore black, with tattoos visible on his arms and neck; Aguilar also wore dark clothing. They posed close together, faces toward each other, and Aguilar placed one hand on Nodal's neck. Behind them several candles stayed lit, while cempasúchil covered much of the decoration and the skulls stood at the ends of the altar.
The earlier post from a plane
The post showed a celebration date different from what had dominated both accounts in the previous hours. Before sharing the altar, Nodal posted an image taken from an airplane window, accompanied by "El último del contrato," a song by Rels B.
Social media users read the song choice as a possible jab related to the artist's personal matters. Some reactions mentioned his maternal family, while others linked the post to Cazzu, the mother of his daughter Inti. Nodal did not confirm any of those interpretations and added no message explaining the photo or the music.
The shift between the two posts prompted comments from the singer's followers, who compared the tone of the first image with the photos he later shared alongside Ángela Aguilar for the Día de Muertos celebration.
Overlap with Belinda's Beliween party
The Nodal and Aguilar posts went up one day after Belinda held her Beliween party on October 28. The singer, Nodal's ex-partner, shared the Halloween celebration on her social media. The matching dates led to comments connecting both sets of posts.
Beyond how followers read the posts online, the altar adds to the public displays of Mexican tradition that circulate on digital platforms each year. The couple's offering, with its tiers, flowers and portraits, was documented in the stories and posts both keep active, and neither has so far offered more information about whom it honors.
